Girl’s Generation (SNSD) Group Profile
            Girl’s Generation is a nine member South Korean pop girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. They are also referred to as SoShi or SNSD by their fans, both abbreviated form of the group’s Korean name. The nine members of GG are Hyoyeon, Sooyoung, Yuri, Seohyun, Yoona, Jessica, Tiffany, Sunny, and Taeyeon ( from left to right).

          Girl’s Generation made their official debut in August 2001 with single “Into the New World”. They released their first self-titled full album in November with its second track “Kissing You”. The song achieved the #1 spot in the three main TV music rankings in Korea. In March 2008, the album was repackaged as “Baby Baby”.
          Girl’s Generation released their first mini-album, Gee in January 2009 which became a mega hit. “Gee” is the record holder for the longest-running #1 on music portal M.net for 8weeks and also broke record on KBS’s Music Bank by being #1 for 9 consecutive weeks.

         After a short break, they released their second mini-album showing Marine Girl concept titled “Tell Me Your Wish” (Genie) in June 2009, which was hugely successful as well. Girl’s Generation continued to excel in 2010 with their second full length album, “Oh!” in January and the song proved to be popular topping various charts upon release.

          Girl’s Generation third mini-album single “Hoot” was released on October 25 through various online music website. After releasing, it tooks less than 7 minutes for “Hoot” to dominate 7 major Korean realtime music charts. In less than 24 hours, “Hoot” music video hits more than 1 million viewers on Youtube.


          The group also made their official Japanese debut in September, with single “Genie” reaching #4 spot on Oricon weekly chart. Girl’s Generation released their first original Japanese single, “Mr Taxi” in April 2011, followed by their first full length Japanese album in June which reached the top Oricon weekly album sales chart.

          The girls made their Korean comeback in October with their third full length Korean album, “The Boys” which became the year’s best selling album. Girl’s Generation released the official US maxi single of “The Boys” in January 2012.
